Concrete Garage Floor Abilene TX - RV Pads & Carports

Garage floors and RV pads take loads a patio never sees: a jack stand under one corner of a pickup, the tongue of a loaded trailer, the four narrow tires of a motorhome sitting in one spot for months. Abilene Concrete Builders pours new garage floors, replaces cracked and sunken ones, and builds RV, boat and trailer pads and carport slabs across Abilene.

Garage Floors

Cracked garage floor broken out to the base with new rebar ready for replacement, Abilene, TX

Replacing a Cracked or Sunken Garage Floor

A garage floor that has dropped away from the walls or split down the middle usually has a base problem, not a concrete problem. We break out the old floor, fix the base, and pour a new slab with steel, an isolation joint at the stem wall, and a slight slope toward the door so water from a wet car runs out.

Thickness and Size

HomeGuide's national guide lists garage slabs at 4 to 6 inches, reinforced, and common two-car sizes from 20 by 20 to 24 by 24 feet. If you'll use a floor jack, an engine hoist or a car lift, tell us. We thicken the slab where the heavy point loads land.

A Floor Ready for a Coating

If you plan to epoxy or polish the floor later, we'll finish it smooth and skip any curing product that interferes with a coating. Tell us the coating before we pour.

What Abilene's RV Parking Rule Says

The City's RV handout says RVs, travel trailers and any other trailer must be parked on an improved surface: concrete, gravel or paved. It also sets distances. Mobile recreation equipment can be kept on developed residential property no closer than 10 feet to any building on a neighboring property, at least 15 feet from the edge of an arterial street and at least 10 feet from the edge of other streets. It can't be parked or stored on a public street, alley, right-of-way or parkway.

Why Concrete Beats Gravel for a Heavy Rig

Gravel meets the rule if it's built to the City's standard, but a motorhome sitting in one place pushes its tires into gravel and leaves ruts. A concrete pad spreads that weight. We size the pad's thickness for the heaviest axle, thicken the edge where it meets the driveway, and slope it to drain.

Where to Put the Pad

We measure the setbacks above on the site look, before we price the pad, so the rig ends up legal and you can still open the doors and run the slide-outs.

Carport Slabs

The City lists carports among the projects that commonly need a building permit. We pour the slab and the post footings to the carport supplier's layout, so the posts land on thickened concrete instead of a 4-inch edge.

What Garage and Pad Work Costs

HomeGuide puts a two-car garage floor at $2,400 to $6,900 nationally. RV pads vary too much with size, thickness and access to quote a fair national number, so we price them after the site look.
